The Huddersfield & Dewsbury Law Society softball competition took place at Outlane Cricket Club on 20 July, the first time since 2019.
As well as us, there were teams from Eaton Smith, Ramsdens, Ridley & Hall, Chadwick Lawrence, Holden Smith, Walker Singleton and Bramleys. Our team won the competition having won all 3 games!
The team, led by Lois Smith included Pardeep Khela, Christopher Carney, Jessica Townend, Jack Venable, Elizabeth Foster, SallyAnn Masih and James Staton.
Lois led from the front taking 3 catches at 3rd base in the first game and crashing a number of home runs. SallyAnn brought her past rounders skills to the bowling department bowling a mean line and making it hard for the opposition to get the ball away. There was good catching in the deep by Pardeep, Jack and Christopher and James took 3 catches behind of edges induced by tight bowling. When it came to batting nearly everyone scored home runs with Christopher, Jack and Pardeep making long hits into the deep with others, making use of gaps in the field and panicked reactions by fielders to achieve home runs.
The scores were:
Schofield Sweeney 37 | 17 Ramsdens
Schofield Sweeney 22 | 16 Eaton Smith
Schofield Sweeney 28 | 22 Ridley & Hall
A good night was had by all participants, the event being rounded off in the bar with hot beef sandwiches or curry.
