We took part in the first Leeds Junior Lawyers Division mixed netball tournament on 23 August.
The event brought together law firms from across Leeds and raised an amazing £600 for the men’s suicide prevention charity Andy’s Man Club.
Our team was made up of Jessica Townend, Emma Davies, Lois Smith, Hannah Cullen, Liam Murphy, Sophie Brazier, Rosie Bamforth, Jack Venable and Christopher Carney.
Given half the team had never played netball before, fair to say we were underdogs, however, coach Jess was on hand to offer some tips.
After playing each team (yes 6 games!), we took 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 losses – not bad for a bunch of novices. As the evening went on and the legs were getting tired a few team players did accidentally (or on purpose) forget the no contact rule however no solicitors were harmed in the process.
Although we didn’t come out victorious winners we did, much to our surprise, manage to bag 3rd place! Despite waking up with some aching bodies on Thursday we’ll be back next year gunning for the gold.
Thank you to the organisers for a fun event.
