Further recognition for the Complex Disputes team

The Complex Disputes team has received recognition following a stand-out year.

The team has dealt with several specialist and strategic matters in 2016, including disputes that have received significant press attention, a multi-jurisdictional claim worth up to £30m, and litigation that has run all the way to the Supreme Court. The team has also assisted a number of high profile individuals in claims against their former advisors and major banks.

The recruitment of Paul Cantwell has further grown the team, which has focused on complex financial, tax and commercial disputes since the recruitment of Partner, Alistair Kennedy, in late 2013.

Alistair has now been ranked amongst the leading litigators in the Yorkshire region in band 2 of the latest Chambers and Partners guide, being described as “Probably the most insightful and client-friendly individual I’ve ever met”.

Schofield Sweeney Chairman, Chris Schofield, said “We have seen growing demand from clients for advice on a range of complex contentious issues, particularly in relation to banking, tax and financial services.  The firm is different in that it has a team of solicitors led by Alistair Kennedy who have an appropriate skill set and experience, who are very rarely conflicted from acting and who are pragmatic on costs.  We are delighted to see the team and its members gain recognition, and also to see the team grow by way of new appointments”.
