October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One in seven females will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, and although survival rates are now over 80% there is still more to be done.
To help raise awareness and funds to keep looking for a cure, we held a few charitable activities over the month.
Starting with our annual bake off. We held two bake off weeks, celebrating the return of The Great British Bake Off to our screens. Thursday 6th October was our signature week where we welcomed any kind of personal favourite bakes from biscuits to brownies. Thursday 20th October was technical week when bakers were challenged to make it PINK!
Budding Bakers across our 3 offices excelled with their bakes. We had everything from meringues to scones, tres leches to celebration cakes. And for those ‘none bakers’ in the firm, the Paul Hollywoods and Prue Leiths came out to join our judging panels.
After much deliberation from our judges, who took their job very seriously (we even had scoring systems!), the winners were announced from each office:
Week 1 winners – Hayley Lomas, Richard Jobes and Tina Morris
Week 2 winners – Sharon Auckland, Janet Smith and Chloe Scott
Well done to our winners along with everyone who brought a bake in. From the purchase of cakes in the offices, we raised an amazing £225.
In addition to Bake off, and to raise attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Day, our colleagues also wore pink to the office, well done to all for their support and to those that went the extra mile as we also raised an additional £80 to the pot.
We asked our ladies (and gentlemen…) to bring their bras so we can donate them to raise money for Against Breast Cancer. For every tonne of bras collected, the charity receives £700 to fund their research and best of all, the bras are recycled supporting small businesses in developing countries in Africa and around the world.
All in all, with over £300 raised and lots of bras to donate, we want to thank our colleagues for their generosity, creativity and involvement in the activities.
