Two new partners add to Schofield Sweeney litigation offering

Partners Matthew Fidler and Gary Ashton join the Dispute Resolution team

Matthew Fidler, who has joined from Stewarts Law, will specialise in complex litigation and has experience of a wide range of disputes including contract, negligence, public procurement and competition law damages actions.

Gary Ashton will join the growing construction and engineering offering at the firm. Gary specialises in construction adjudication acting for claimants and defendants and joins from Hawkswell Kilvington.

The Schofield Sweeney Dispute Resolution team is one of the emerging teams in the market and has developed a strong caseload of complex, high stakes litigation acting for a range of clients.

The department has grown consistently over the past five years. Matt, Gary and fellow recent joiner Leo Jones-Rowe, take the team to a total of 6 partners, supported by a strong group of directors, associates and solicitors.

The team has been nominated for Dispute Resolution Team of the Year at this year’s Yorkshire Lawyer Awards and is gaining very positive feedback across the legal press.

Matthew Fidler “I am delighted to have joined Schofield Sweeney.   The success the litigation team has achieved recently is impressive and I look forward to being part of an exciting time of growth and development for the team and the firm as a whole”

Gary Ashton “Schofield Sweeney is an ambitious firm with an excellent reputation.  This is a great opportunity and I am looking forward to working with the experienced and professional litigation team and developing the construction offering.”

Alistair Kennedy, Partner, said:

“Matt and Gary are fantastic recruits. They are both high quality lawyers who are forward looking and very well respected. They give us further specialist litigation experience and will play key roles in the continued development of the team in the future”.

Gary and Matthew join ten other new recruits including five solicitors, one associate, one legal assistant and three trainees who joined the firm over the last couple of weeks, further expanding the Corporate, Commercial and Private Client teams.
