John is an employment lawyer and a partner in the employment team with over 20 years’ experience.
He advises clients in all aspects of employment law, including employee relations, reorganisations and redundancies, TUPE, executive terminations, contracts of employment, settlement agreements and negotiations.
John is also an experienced employment tribunal advocate, having represented clients in claims of unfair dismissal, discrimination, breach of contract and complex multi-party collective consultation and TUPE claims. He also acts for clients in several sectors, including logistics, chemicals, energy and retail.
Work highlights include:
- Successfully defending a national retailer in a multi-day discrimination claim involving serious allegations of institutional racism.
- Closing a multi-site manufacturing facility involving over 1000 redundancies without receipt of a single employment tribunal claim.
- Advising a client on the termination of employment of a senior employee and the negotiation of a settlement agreement in three separate European jurisdictions.
In a voluntary capacity, John is chairman of a Leeds and Harrogate based charity called Paperworks and sits as a trustee on the board of the Leeds University Technical College.
