Schools have seen a marked increase in the number of subject access requests (SARs) made by parents as well as the pupils themselves at a time when resources are already stretched. Now may be the time to refresh your knowledge and skills on how to effectively handle them.
Under the UK GDPR, individuals have a right to access their personal data held by an organisation. However, there are rules, requirements and some exemptions that may apply. SARs can present interesting challenges especially when the information held is in respect of children.
What will be covered
During this webinar we will take you through the fundamentals of what the right is and requirements of a legitimate SAR, through to a look at exemptions. You will come away with a refreshed strong set of skills and knowledge on how to handle a SAR.
• What the right of access is
• The definition of Personal Data in relation to a SAR
• The process of handling a SAR – from who can make one, timescales for compliance through to enforcement
• Common areas of concern
• Exemptions to disclosure which may be applied
• Redaction, scrutiny and complaints/appeals
Who will benefit
This webinar is perfect for Data Protection Officers, Headteachers, members of Senior Leadership Teams and/or those who have responsibility for data protection matters within schools and trusts.
Your questions – answered
The event will also include a Q&A session at the end with two of our education and data protection law experts, Tina Morris and Fiona Crothers.
