Simon heads the employment team and acts for organisations, individuals and schools on a range of employment law matters.
He provides strategic and commercial advice to employers on issues such as disciplinary proceedings, grievances, restructures, poor performance, sickness absence and TUPE. Simon is also an advocate in employment tribunals.
Simon has experience in the education sector and, as well as providing employment law advice to schools and academies, advises on parental complaints and has successfully represented schools in the SEN and Disability Tribunal.
Work highlights include:
- Successfully represented a courier company facing claims of unfair dismissal and race discrimination. Simon conducted his own advocacy in a 7-day hearing and obtained a costs award of over £30,000.
- Defending a school facing allegations of unfair dismissal and disability discrimination. The school had dismissed the employee for gross misconduct for lying about the effects of his condition. Simon was successful in the defence.
- Successfully defending a school in the SEN and Disability Tribunal facing claims of disability discrimination having excluded a pupil.
In a voluntary capacity, Simon is a mentor for Leeds University students, offering guidance and support to students studying law.
