Employment rates and limits

1st April 2022

The National Minimum Wage increases from today (Friday 1st April 2022).

The National Minimum Wage (NMW) will increase as follows:

  New Rate (from April 2022) Previous Rate (April 2021 – March 2022)
Age 23 or over (National Living Wage) £9.50 £8.91
Age 21 to 22 £9.18 £8.36
Age 18 to 20 £6.83 £6.56
Age 16 to 17 £4.81 £4.62
Apprentice Rate £4.81 £4.30

 

Other statutory rate increases to be aware of which apply from April 2022 are:

  • The maximum limit on a week’s pay for calculating statutory redundancy pay increases from £544 to £571. This is applicable from 6 April 2022.
  • Statutory sick pay increases from £96.35 to £99.35. This is applicable from 6 April 2022.
  • The maximum compensatory award for unfair dismissal increases from £89,493 to £93,878 (or one year’s pay, if lower). This is applicable from 6 April 2022.
  • Statutory maternity pay, statutory paternity pay, statutory adoption pay, statutory adoption pay, statutory shared parental pay and statutory parental bereavement pay increase from £151.97 to £156.66. This is applicable from 3 April 2022.
