Emma specialises in advising businesses and individuals on regulatory compliance and defence against prosecution, with a particular expertise in environmental and health and safety matters.

She is also experienced in Selective and HMO licensing compliance and defence, including appeals to the First-tier Tribunal and Crown Court.

Recent work highlights include:

• Advising a company on environmental and health and safety risks related to its share purchase of another company, including the Control of Hazardous Substances Regulations and The Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations
• Advising a company on a series of corporate acquisitions which included considerations on food safety, hygiene, importation, and labelling
• Advising a property investor on environmental and planning risks related to its acquisition of a retail park
• Acting for a company director in their successful Crown Court appeal against sentencing and conviction for non-compliance with a selective licensing scheme
• Acting for a company in its judicial review of a local authority decision concerning its use of a development

Emma is the chair of Schofield Sweeney’s Environmental Group and in her spare time is a mentor to aspiring lawyers.
