Amanda Simmonds

Qualifying in 1988, Amanda has 38 years’ experience as a private client solicitor, advising many wealthy families over the years.

She advises on all aspects of Private Client work, including wills, trusts and their related documents, mental capacity issues and LPAs, administering estates and giving all-round IHT, CGT and income tax planning advice. Amanda has both landed estate and OMB experience and specialises in advising Family Businesses, particularly on succession issues. She also advises on complex trust structures, trustee duties, offshore trusts and cross-border matters.

Amanda led the team that drafted the STEP Standard Provisions 3rd edition. She has been awarded a STEP Founder’s Award, which is awarded to extraordinary volunteers who have gone above and beyond in their dedication to the Society, significantly contributing to its success.

She is a Chartered Tax Adviser (CIOT), a full member of STEP and a current member of the CIOT Private Client UK and Private Client International Technical sub-committees.

Over 20 years, Amanda has worked as a volunteer for STEP and has held a number of roles, including Yorkshire Branch Chairman, Business Families Global Special Interest Group Steering Committee member, Deputy Worldwide Chair, Deputy Chair of STEP’s Professional Standards Committee and North-East Council member.
