Kanika deals with all aspects of succession planning and wealth management, with a particular focus on acting for business owners, high net worth individuals and those with cross-border issues.
She also specialises in probate and estate administration work for high value and complex estates, often those with assets in other jurisdictions.
Kanika is highly regarded for her technical knowledge and strategic approach to inheritance tax planning, along with her ability to explain complex strategies to clients in a clear and understandable manner.
Work highlights include:
- Advising upon the most appropriate will structure for an individual with assets of over £14 million across three different jurisdictions and with blended family considerations. Working with an appropriate international adviser, a trust structure was created in the Will in order to achieve the client’s desired level of asset protection whilst at the same time ensuring maximum inheritance tax efficiency.
- Giving inheritance tax advice to a family of shareholders following the sale of the business where the proceeds of sale were significant and held in a discretionary trust. Detailed advice was given, and the appropriate documents drawn up to ensure the desired approach was achieved for each family.
- Identifying an opportunity to execute a deed of variation in order to reclaim a significant amount of inheritance tax in an estate that had been dealt with by another firm. A successful claim for a substantial refund was duly made.
- Dealing with the administration of an intestate estate with beneficiaries in India, business assets in the UK, a dispute and potential claim against the estate; identifying scope for a greater inheritance tax saving claim to be made.
Kanika is a full member of STEP (the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners) and has over 16 years post qualification experience.
