Basharat has 30 years’ experience of advising on the sale, acquisition and funding of large property portfolios as well as the development and leasing of shopping centre units, office blocks and industrial estates.

He has worked on leases in all the major shopping centres in the country including Meadowhall, Trafford Centre, Westfield and Bluewater as well as major high streets. His more recent work has involved big industrial sheds along the M62 corridor.

Work highlights include:

• Advising on the surrender of five existing leases and the grant of a new 10-year lease of a refurbished unit measuring 280,000sqf at a rent of £968,000.00 per annum. This deal was one of the biggest in the area.
• Acting on the acquisition of an iconic but unused building in Huddersfield for conversion to some 130 units of student accommodation with funding from the council of up to £10m for the development of the building.

He has acted as an honorary solicitor to several not for profits including council for Mosques Kirkwood Hospice and the ICEA.

He was also a founding member of the Pakistan Club and is its current president. The club seeks to strengthen community engagement and cohesion.
