£1.6 million social housing deal announced

25th March 2020

In a time of national crisis for business, individuals and families up and down the country, we are pleased to announce a successful £1.6m social housing deal that will benefit Bradford and the wider West Yorkshire areas.

Pardeep Khela, associate in our commercial property team and Andrew Hurst, a partner in our projects and construction team, have advised the Quality Social Housing (QSH) group in respect of the simultaneous sale of over 10 newly constructed social housing units to Incommunities.

The units are located within the Bradford area and involved calling upon our property, construction and planning expertise. The transaction was completed within 3 weeks from initial instruction and involved dealing with a number of title, environmental and local government issues – which all needed to be satisfied prior to the sale.

Cheaper to rent than privately rented housing and usually providing a long-term tenancy, the move will help give renters some assurance and stability during these uncertain times and help alleviate some of the pressure from the 1.2 million households currently on the social housing waiting list in England.

Speaking about the deal, Pardeep said: The transaction and Chain Street’s regeneration helps Incommunities increase their social housing capacity, thereby meeting the growing housing needs of Bradford and the wider area. In these worrying and uncertain times for families it’s a welcome move for them during such troubled times”.
