The academisation drive continues

A press release from the Department for Education today announced that there are record levels of children in good and outstanding schools. Around 350,000 children are studying in sponsored academies which are now rated good or outstanding, many of which were previously failing and suffering from underperformance. 85% of schools are now rated good or outstanding, which is the highest level since records began.

This is a good indication that schools are responding well to the Government’s extensive reforms in terms of academisation. It's a signal that the reforms are likely to continue in terms of introducing choice and accountability through the academies and free schools programme.

Despite last week’s referendum verdict, which seems to have thrown politics into uncertainty, the message still seems to be that schools converting to academies will still on the Government’s agenda, with the preferred approach being for academies become part of a multi-academy trust.
