In a statement produced by the Department of Education on 1 July 2016 the Government has addressed how the recent EU Referendum results may impact upon the education sector. The report confirms that the Government will continue to deliver on its manifesto commitments alongside guaranteeing that the usual Government business continues. Outlining such business as “ensuring a high-quality school place for every child, recruiting and training the best teachers, tackling underperformance wherever it occurs, and keeping children safe”.
The Government also attempts to reassure those EU citizens living, studying or working in the UK reporting that the current arrangements will continue to apply to those concerned.
The report follows the concerns voiced by National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) regarding EU pupils’ fears surrounding their future status.
