Hat Trick of Promotions

Specialist commercial law firm, Schofield Sweeney, has made three internal promotions to reflect the quality of legal practitioners representing the firm. James Wood, James Austin and Farooq Zar have all been promoted to Associates.

James Wood joined the dispute resolution team at Schofield Sweeney in October 2003. Prior to this he worked for a local firm specialising in commercial litigation. James has a broad range of experience within commercial litigation and property litigation, shareholder disputes and contractual claims. He also has substantial knowledge in property related disputes, including real property claims and commercial landlord and tenant litigation.

On his promotion James says: “Being promoted to Associate in a firm with such high standards is an achievement of which I am proud.”

James Austin, a specialist in employment law, has been with Schofield Sweeney since January 2005. Prior to joining the firm he worked for Stamp Jackson and Procter in Hull, where he also completed his training contract.

At Schofield Sweeney his duties include advising on all aspects of employment law, assisting the commercial team with employment aspects of transactions, drafting employment documentation, representing clients at Employment Tribunals and presenting seminars.

Commenting on his promotion, James says: “This is a boost for me personally, and reflects the professional and positive culture within Schofield Sweeney. It’s a great compliment.”

Farooq Zar specialises in commercial property, joining Schofield Sweeney as a trainee in 2001 and qualifying into the commercial property department in April 2003.

Farooq is responsible for a wide range of commercial property transactions including landlord and tenant matters as well as acquisitions and disposals of freehold property. He has particular experience in acting for landlords and tenants of retail leases.

Farooq comments on his promotion: “It’s good to know that the hard work I have put in has been appreciated.”
