Education Forum

8th June 2017

Is your school ready for the new EU General Data Protection Regulation?

At our next Education Forum for schools and multi academy trusts (MATs) on 8 June 2017, our specialist team will look at some of the most important data protection issues affecting schools, including what the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) means for the education sector.

This interactive session will cover the following topics:

An Overview of Data Protection
Explore what data protection obligations and responsibilities you currently have as a school or a MAT. Find out about the data protection principles and the role of the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Dealing with Employee Records and Requests for Information
Tips on how to successfully handle a data subject access request from a parent, pupil or member of staff. Find out what exemptions could apply to disclosing personal information. Also find out more about what records your HR team should be retaining and when is the right time to dispose of them.

The Future of Data Protection: GDPR
Find out about how the GDPR, which will become law in May 2018, may affect your school or MAT. An outline of the main changes in the data protection law and consider what changes you may need to make before the GDPR comes into force.

This is your opportunity to connect and build networks with other schools, MATs and academies, share best practice, and discuss any concerns you have. Our specialist Education Team will also be available to advise on the relevant law and explore a range of issues. If there are any particular topics you would like to hear about then please do let us know.

The Education Forum is primarily aimed at members of the senior leadership team and business managers. There will be a variety of topics covered so it may also be appropriate for HR managers or other colleagues to attend. If governors are able to attend they would also be very welcome.

A light breakfast will be provided. We will also spend some time networking informally and give you the opportunity to input into the format of future events.
