Education Forum

10th October 2017

At our next Education Forum for schools, academies and multi academy trusts on 10th October 2017, our specialist team will look at handling Freedom of Information (FOI) requests and provide practical guidance to help you comply with your responsibilities to provide information.  We will also explore the various challenges for employers due to the massive growth in social media, as well as looking at the issues arising when wanting to access employee’s email accounts.

This interactive session will cover the following topics:

Dealing with Requests for Information
What do you do when you receive a FOI request from a parent, journalist, or a member of the public?  How do you ensure compliance with your legal obligations as well as balance the running of the school?  Find out what exemptions could apply when disclosing information.  We will also cover the timescales for compliance and the consequences for breaching the FOI Act.

Dealing with Social Media and Access to Emails in the Workplace
When is it acceptable to access employees’ emails?  Can you rely on private emails and/or social media postings when taking disciplinary action?  What if an employee publishes something offensive, upsetting or potentially damaging on social media?  This session will cover these common questions and more with regards to the use of IT in – and out – of the workplace.

This is your opportunity to connect and build networks with other schools, MATs and academies, share best practice and discuss any concerns you have.  Our specialist Education Team will also be available to advise on the relevant law and explore a range of issues.  If there are any particular topics you would like to hear about then please do let us know.

The Education Forum is primarily aimed at members of the senior leadership team and business managers. There will be a variety of topics covered so it may also be appropriate for HR managers or other colleagues to attend.  If governors are able to attend they would also be very welcome.

A light breakfast will be provided. We will also spend some time networking informally and give you the opportunity to input into the format of future events.
