Avoiding discrimination claims - Leeds

26th April 2017

Avoiding discrimination claims: from recruitment through to termination and beyond

Whether it’s dealing with the wording for a job advert, tackling workplace “banter” or dismissing someone on the grounds of ill health, the risk of a discrimination claim is a daunting prospect for employers and often leads to nervousness about tackling issues head on.

Schofield Sweeney’s employment team welcomes you to a discrimination law workshop where we will provide an insightful overview of the Equality Act 2010 and give you guidance on how to avoid discrimination claims. We will use recent case law and practical examples to answer common questions such as:

  • Who is liable for discriminatory acts in the workplace?
  • How can someone I have never employed bring a claim against my company?
  • What amounts to a reasonable adjustment?
  • Can I seek medical information before making an offer of employment?
  • Is stress a disability?
  • When is positive discrimination acceptable?
  • How do I deal effectively with grievances where discrimination is alleged?
  • Can I dismiss an employee who has a disability on grounds of ill health?
  • Can pregnant employees be disciplined?
